FinnishLevel A1Evening course

Finnish A1 evening course: your first steps in Finnish

Twelve weeks of Tuesday and Thursday evenings for complete beginners. You learn the Finnish you need straight away in Turku, at the shop, on the bus, at the health centre and with the neighbours, and you speak from the very first lesson.

Who this course is for

  • You have just moved to Turku, or you are about to.
  • You know no Finnish yet, or only “moi” and “kiitos”.
  • You want a steady pace that fits around work or studies.
  • You would like an English explanation when the grammar gets tricky.

After 12 weeks you can

  • introduce yourself and talk about your family, work and home
  • shop, order food and ask for prices and directions
  • follow simple announcements on the bus and the train
  • book an appointment and fill in a simple form
  • write a short message to a colleague or a neighbour

Questions about Finnish A1

Do I need any Finnish before the course?

No. A1 starts with the alphabet and pronunciation. If you already know some basics, the free trial class will show whether A1 or A2 suits you better.

Is there homework?

About an hour a week: short listening tasks, a few written exercises and one small speaking task you record on your phone. It is optional, but it makes a real difference.

What comes after A1?

Most students continue straight to Finnish A2: Everyday Finnish on Monday and Wednesday evenings. From there, Finnish B1 prepares you for working life and the YKI test.

Ready for your first “moi”?

Join a real A1 lesson for free, meet Aino and the group, and decide afterwards.
